50th Birthday Collage Commission

A recent collage commission for a 50th birthday included a 50p coin from the receivers year of birth; a postcard of Nottingham where she studied; a tape measure, stitches and pins representing her studies in fashion, and her initial. The commissioners for this collage didn’t have a collection of papers already, so instead we worked together to find old items that were relevant to the receiver to make it personal. These items were then combined with ephemera and elements that I have, and that complimented them well.

Once items are sourced and gathered together I always create up a mock up, all paper clipped together to check the buyers are happy. A tweak or two sometimes happens before I get completing the piece. This is the process this collage went through until it was complete . . .

I’ve been a busy (Manchester) bee stocking up the shop at the Craft Centre over the last couple of months but also making new treats for over on lovedazzle. Sunday is also the return of the lovely Little Northern Contemporary Craft Fair in Altrincham. And I’m also taking part in POP UP Gallery Shop at The Square Shopping Centre in Sale. This is part of the Waterside Arts Centre’s 10th Year anniversary celebrations and features artists and makers from Manchester from various disciplines. You can see where else to see and buy my work on my website (currently (slowly) being updated!).

I have added new work to my two online galleries, lovedazzzle and madebyhandonline. The work above is a selection  from both but you can click onto the links for more.

Lovedazzle and madebyhandonline are my two online galleries if you want to see and buy from the comfort of your sofa! My work mostly varies with each item made, so if you can’t see what you are after, if you are wanting a different colour way or necklace length for example, feel free to contact me (post@clarehillerby.co.uk) to discuss your preferences. I also post items here in the blog from time to time that you may be interested and again feel free to request more details on their whereabouts or availability. Alternatively I am happy to make bespoke items based on my current designs, from simple items to larger specials as in the ‘lovely necklace commission‘, more details on the progress of that commission coming soon!
