Collage Brooches

I’ve have just completed a new series of collage brooches. It’s been a few years since I’ve made any of my one off collage brooches, they need a lot more time to figure out and go through many versions before I can get making.

The initial idea was to work with layering of my materials, oxidised silver which I’ve reduced the larger sections to a grey finish to contrast with the upper smaller layers, larger pieces of ruler, settings in oval and irregular hexagons with a split of handwriting and image side of postcards, and then various elements, linear fragments, few brass elements which I liked the colour of with the greys and woods, and then hints of gold leaf highlights. And of course a scattering of gold tube rivets.

I took progress images along the way . . . and have added the results to my online shop

Wraps collection . . .

Wraps are something I have been making since graduating, they were the result of being inspired by handwriting, looking at the overlapping and interweaving lines drawn by the hand. Wraps were originally used in combination with the various other contrasting elements. Gradually they have developed into pieces on to their own, useful if you are wearing a necklace for instance with a wrap element along others, you may prefer to wear wrap studs for example, keeping it simple.

They remain an element amongst other contrasting elements, and they are also an established collection of their own comprising of nice weighty and tactile bangles which you may have spotted in my online shop already, there are also studs, necklaces, more recently brooches in the collection, and now I have a brand new hanging wrap earring that features a hand drawn silver lozenge top element. All are available in black or white sterling silver, and are now all available online . . .

I also post items here in the blog from time to time that you may be interested and again feel free to request more details on their whereabouts or availability. Alternatively I am happy to make bespoke items based on my current designs, from simple items to larger specials as in the ‘lovely necklace commission‘, more details on the progress of that commission coming soon!

Bunting!

After lots of interest in my bunting at previous open studio events, and seeing lots of searches for it here on my blog, I decided to set up an online shop for you to browse and buy my bunting, it is now open! (You can also find a link on my blog page, at the top of the right margin, so its easy to find in the future). It is all made by hand, by me, from original treasures I have found on my hunts for interesting old papers. I’ve hand cut circles from annuals, music books, vintage maps, added ribbon and machine stitched them in lengths of around 3m, then added loops to the ends for easy hanging, these are secured with found vintage buttons. I have to admit I have kept one myself and love it as it cheers up an otherwise boring plain white wall above my bed! I hope you like them, here are a few currently available in the shop . . .

Collages on sale!

I thought I would highlight my collages from the previous collection as I’ve decided it is time to reduce them now I have my new collection, and they have come out quite different! The previous collection collages are available from my online shop with 25% off, making them £60 rather than £80 (+£4 towards postage + packing). They are all one-of-a-kind, so once they have gone, they are gone! They are all unframed but mounted on ice white board, (the measurements of the collaged area are within the descriptions in the shop).

My online shop is now open!

I’m excited to announce that my online shop is now open at www.clarehillerby.co.uk!

There are new pieces of jewellery ready to buy now, a sample is below, (and new collages are coming soon!). You can also order items based on the collection in the shop, but tailor made to your preferences too, in different colourways for example. I will be adding new items every now and again so keep looking back.

I hope you like it!

Now on Craftfinder . . .

Craftfinder is a lovely new website featuring selected makers and venues across the country in one place so you can search for makers and places near you, or around places you’re planning to visit. You can also sign up and collect your favourite things from the site to keep like a pinboard. It’s a lovely looking site and has some great makers and I’m so pleased to be part of it. I was just added today so take a look at the site, and of course my profile page, I hope you like it!
